The state of the art stadiummk opened in 2007, in the same year as Milton Keynes reached 40 years of age. To celebrate these important occasions, artist Gordon Young has designed a major public artwork called Ring of Steel for the new stadium.
Visual of the Ring of Steel within the stadium
“I think that we are famous as a town for our public art. It's about the coming of age of a city as we celebrate our 40th birthday.”
Pete Winkelman
A not-for-profit public art project in partnership with MK Dons, MK Citizen and Milton Keynes Council, the Ring of Steel will be created by the internationally recognised artist Gordon Young, to celebrate the 40th birthday of Milton Keynes.
Spanning the circumference of stadiummk’s brilliant open concourse, the Ring of Steel will include over 40,000 faces that will retain a place in Milton Keynes’ history. The artwork will be a snapshot in time of our young people and the wider community. These portraits will be set in steel for years to come.
Ring of Steel is a one-off project which will never be repeated. There are limited spaces for faces and we are taking bookings on a first come first served basis. This is a unique opportnity for your company to make its mark on the face of Milton Keynes and become a part of Milton Keynes history. Companies with over 500 staff will also gain a further recognition with a plaque showing companies that supported.
